Nice view, convenient to Hopkins campus

Reasonably nice apartment, though a little expensive for what it actually is. As mentioned before it's pretty convenient to Johns Hopkins homewood campus, and if you're high enough up and in the right part of the building you have a pretty nice view. The few maintenance requests I've had to put in have been addressed quickly and efficiently. The downsides: The galley kitchen in the studio apartments is uncomfortably small and can be difficult to prepare anything complicated in. Additionally the vents in the kitchen can be insufficient to remove smoke that is produced even incidentally when cooking meats in the oven. There is also the occasional problem with pests, like mice in the building, though they appear to be trying to deal with this problem.

Great Apartment, Great Staff, Great Experience

I have been living at the Carlyle for a year and a half now and LOVE it! This is such a great place to live. The apartment is loaded with amenities like a washer and dryer in unit, dishwasher, parking garage, rooftop pool, gym, and study room. More importantly, the staff here are all kind and helpful people, always going the extra mile to make my living experience as best as it can be. Tucked away between Tuscany Canterbury and Hampden, it is only short walk to Johns Hopkins University and Hampden. The building is people and pet friendly! I would recommend this apartment complex to anyone looking for a great place to live without the hustle of being right in downtown Baltimore.

Beautiful, large apt

I've lived here for nearly two years now. My 2 bedroom, 2 bath apt here is the largest, most expansive apt I've ever lived in. The living room alone could fit a studio apt at another building, each of the bedrooms has tons of free floor space and huge closets, and there's a phenomenal view from the porch. That's right--there's a porch! I spent nearly my whole first summer here sitting on the porch working. It's extremely peaceful and, once again, a very large area. Maintenance is really responsive to any issues that do arise, especially if there's an emergency. The reviewer below me is right to commend the washer-dryer and dishwasher in unit. Also, the wifi here is exceptional. Overall, I'm really pleased.

Not horrible

This place obviously isn't the most luxurious property in the city. That's clear when you tour it and it's not priced that way, either. The problem is it isn't going to grow on you, either. When we moved in, we found that a number of our doors had been painted so aggressively that they were so difficult to open and close that we loosened the doorhandles wrestling with them. Our unit has four heating units that are tied to the building's boiler. Only three of the four units had a working thermostat. All four had paint so thick that the controls weren't accessible (we didn't know it had controls at first). More than half of our electrical outlets had been completely painted over and were completely unusable until maintenance scraped off the paint. I lost my patience with the staff when they asked me to mark the outlets that needed to be freed from paint so the maintenance guy could fix them. Telling them "all of them, duh" wasn't enough. By that point, I just gave up trying to work with them. They hadn't even wiped down the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom. The biggest lesson we learned is to manage them really closely whenever they call in one of their "contractors". We had them in the apartment once. They used our step ladder -- no biggie. But, the contractors left dust from their work everywhere, left globs of paint from their paintbrushes in two of our sinks, and tracked dust and paint over our rugs. Anyone moving here should demand to do a walkthrough to find stuff like this before moving in. The staff can't be trusted to check it out ahead of time and you'll be submitting tickets for weeks to get caught up with their staff (or worse, their contractors) coming in and out of your home. The building itself is just as unimpressive. Not horrible. Unimpressive. We've found that the water temperatures in the showers can vary pretty wildly while showering. The windows in both of our bathrooms are so drafty that we don't miss the bathroom fans that most places have. That's fine in the spring and fall but freezing in the winter. The faucets clearly aren't high end, but it didn't occur to us that we'd end up with wet stomachs any time we wash dishes in the sink. There are a lot of horror stories out there. You certainly won't have to deal with that here. But, don't plan the apartment growing on you. If anything, you'll probably notice more things that are annoying than things you like.

Very good apartment

This apartment is near the campus , which is opposite to the north gate of the campus. The school bus comes directly to the apartment. The free gym and swimming pool is a big advantage. It also has washing machine and dryers in all the apartments. The air conditioner is good, so the apartment is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. Good apartment!
