Downtown luxury

The building was renovated in 2013, which means everything inside the individual units is sparkling and pristine. Granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and ample space. Huge windows overlooking the city are a major plus. That said, it's an old building, and you've got to be vigilant about insects! There are a lot of dogs and cats, so common areas are worn down and dirtied quickly. And there's no concierge or other building oversight. It's in a rough part of downtown, by the library and a few blocks over from Lexington Market, so if safety is a concern, I'd beware. The rent is much steeper than other buildings in comparable neighborhoods (around $1350 a month -- just rent -- for a studio). In essence: I love my apartment when i come home after work and I'm actually in it. But would I choose it again, knowing what I do now? Probably not.

Downtown location historic feel

The building sits right between Mt Vernon and Downtown and has great access to transportation, the Inner Harbor and to all Mt Vernon has to offer. The building itself maintains its historic charm but has been fully updated: new appliances, open kitchen. Clean and well-maintained, renovation was fairly recent. Very high ceilings and large windows. The bedroom is not completely closed off from the living space which may be a problem for some. Can't hear the neighbors at all. Trash is outside the building, a pain in the wintertime and not very secure (people rifle through and dump in front of the side door). Parking is also not convenient- few spaces in the basement and nearby garages are not cheap. Proximity to downtown, while convenient for work and transport, also means lots of noise from sirens, passing cars, and people (possibly drunk) at all hours but probably not as bad as a block down. Maintenance generally quick and the rent is very reasonable for what we are getting. Overall happy but would not stay long-term.

Be warned...

This building has a good location close to downtown. However, since I moved in there have been several re-occurring issues. Each summer, there are problems with the air conditioning system. Each winter, there are issues with heat. The management company has had to resort to providing space heaters for apartments that are not getting adequately heated in the colder months. More recently, the fire alarm has been on the fritz and has sounded close to a dozen times over the course of a month, at all hours of the day sometimes multiple times per day. Management has been completely unable to solve the issue. Packages get stolen out of the mail room with some regularity, you cannot walk around this area alone at night, the elevators are out of service regularly, and the front door has needed repairs several times because it won't latch properly. I chose this apartment because of the price, but I would not choose it again. Go elsewhere if you want a hassle free experience.

Property Manager at 300 Cathedral responded to this review

We are sorry your experience did not meet your expectations. In late 2018 the ownership of this community made a change in management. Although problems cannot be eliminated immediately; focus has been on permanent solutions, improving general building upkeep and appearance and responsiveness to maintenance problems.

Do Not Live Here They Are Under New Management

I am a current tenant. This property was recently bought by Chasen Companies and it has gone down hill since. For starters there has been trash from previous tenants for the last two months in the lobby. You have to walk through old clothes dishes and furniture to get to the elevator. My AC has been off for going on two months now. It has been consistently 80 degrees in my studio apartment. Do they care? NO. They never even offered any accommodations. Now I have also noticed that the water has not been getting hot for the last two weeks. Do not live here they do not care about their tenants.
